Lexington, KY -- The Beloit College Volleyball team was a part of a record 622 teams who earned recognition with the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2012 season.
The award, which was initiated in 1992, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the most recent season by maintaining a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average as a team. There were 93 teams honored in NCAA Division III, also a new record.
The Bucs, under head coach Dawn Redd, were one of three Midwest Conference teams honored, along with Cornell and Monmouth. Beloit was one of eight teams in the state of Wisconsin recognized, joining Edgewood, Maranatha Bible, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville in Division III, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee in Division I, and Cardinal Stritch in the NAIA.
The Buccaneers open their 2013 season on Friday, August 30, in the Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena. Beloit plays Rockford College at 4:30 pm and Finlandia University at 8:30 pm on the opening day of the tourney. They take on Milwaukee School of Engineering at 10:00 am on Saturday before finishing up with Marian University at 2:00 pm.
