Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team settled for a split in their Midwest Conference doubleheader with Carroll University on Sunday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium, winning 9-5 before falling 9-2.  The results also left the teams with a split of their four-game MWC series.

In the opener Beloit jumped on top with five runs in the first inning and then held off a comeback effort by the Pioneers.

Alex Lawrence drove in the first run in the first with a bases loaded single before Will Mack cleared the bags with a three-run double.  Andrew Edwards then singled in Mack to complete the big inning.  After Carroll pushed across a run in the second the Bucs countered with Adrian Peil's sacrifice fly to left to keep the five-run cushion.  Beloit added an unearned run in the third when Sean Little singled in Edwards, who had reached on an error, to make it 7-1.

The Pioneers kept chipping away, scoring three in the fifth to make it 7-4 and adding an unearned run in the sixth to pull within two.  But that closed out the scoring for CU and the Buccaneers tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a single by Little and a sac fly by Matt Meade.  Grant Henricksen shut down Carroll in the ninth to secure the win.

Dalton Deckert got the mound victory, going six-plus innings, striking out four.  Andrew Kane pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief before Henricksen got his second save.  The pitching staff was helped by four double plays behind them.  Edwards and Little each had two hits.

In the series' finale, the Pioneers scored five runs in the second to take control early.  They added a sixth run in the fifth before the Bucs got on the board in the seventh when Lawrence doubled and Danny Corral doubled him home with two outs.

Carroll made it 9-1 with three runs in the ninth, all after two were out, before Beloit closed the scoring in the bottom of the inning when Mack doubled in Peil, who had led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch.

Jake Parrott had a pair of hits to lead the offense.

The Bucs are off until Thursday when they travel to De Pere to start an MWC series with St. Norbert College.  Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
