Mequon, WI -- Dodging the storms that hit Wisconsin on Wednesday, the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a close 8-7 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game at Concordia University.
After CU scored the game's first goal the Bucs rattled off three straight scores, the first two by Sara Fithian and the third by Sam Schonberger, to take a 3-1 lead. Concordia scored at 20:25 to pull back within one before Ellie Daniels re-established the two-goal lead with 5:23 left in the half. But Concordia rattled off three straight of their own in the last 4:35, the final one with five seconds left, to take a 5-4 advantage at the break.
Sarah Pipal got Beloit back even at 26:24 before the back and forth scoring started. The Falcons scored at 24:24 to take the lead until Caitlin Paterson tallied at 18:34 to tie it at 6-6. CU scored again, this time a man up, at 12:32 but Erin Chambers evened it up again at 9:02. Concordia finally got the goal that put them on top to stay with 5:47 remaining and held off the Bucs down the stretch.
Michelle Dillon made 11 saves in goal for the Buccaneers.
Beloit closes out it's inaugural season on Saturday when they host Carthage College in an 11:00 a.m. MWLC game at Strong Stadium.
