Ripon, WI -- Jennifer Zucker, a freshman pitcher from Glenview, Illinois (Glenbrook South) who plays for the Beloit College Softball team, has been named the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the week for the week ending April 14. The Conference Office announced the honor today.
Over the past weekend at the MWC Softball Classic in East Peoria, Illinois, Zucker went 2-2 with a 1.22 ERA while striking out 34 and walking just three. In Sunday’s 8-0 win over Grinnell College she threw just the fourth no-hitter in Buccaneer Softball history while striking out ten Pioneers to set a new Beloit single-season record, which now stands at 141 (and counting).
Zucker broke the season record of 133 set by Beloit Athletic Hall of Honor member Jamie Cassette, set in 1996. The no-hitter was the first for a Buccaneer pitcher since Katy Nilson and Stacy Salomone combined to no-hit Carroll on April 4, 2007.
For the season Zucker is 5-12 with a 3.30 ERA. She has struck out 141 and walked just 14 in 123.0 innings.
The Bucs are off this week until hosting Lawrence University for an MWC doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, at the Strong Complex Softball Field. Action Saturday begins at 1:00 p.m.
