Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team dropped a pair of games to UW-Platteville at the Strong Complex Softball Field on Tuesday, falling 4-3 and 10-7.

But they definitely went down swinging.

In game one, the Bucs jumped on top in the bottom of the first when Kandace Fox doubled home Emily Dorjath, who had walked.  UWP scored twice in the second to take the lead and added single runs in both the third and fifth to lead 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Tala Cornell followed up on a Tara Grode double with a two-run home run, her second of the season, to pull Beloit within a run.  But that was as close as they would get, going down in order in the sixth and the seventh.

In game two, the Pioneers scored twice in the first and once in the fourth before putting five on the board in the sixth to lead 8-0.  The Buccaneer bats finally got going in the bottom of the sixth.  Grode walked to lead off the inning and stole second.  After an out Bethany Stavrakas singled and then moved to second on a fielder's choice, with Grode holding at third.  Fox then hit a two-run single to right, making it 8-2, and went around to third on a two-base error but was stranded.

UW-Platteville tacked on two more runs in the seventh to re-establish their eight-run cushion but the Bucs came out swinging in the bottom of the inning.  Megan Salm led off with a single, her second straight hit, and Ashleigh Gasparola walked.  After an out Grode reached on a fielder's choice, with Gasparola out at second and Salm advancing to third.  Cornell then hit her second home run of the day over the left field fence to make it 10-5.  Bethany Stavrakas followed with a single and Dorjath doubled her home to make it 10-6.  Fox then reached on an error while Dorjath scored to make it a 10-7 game.  But that was as close as Beloit could get.

Stavrakas and Salm both had two hits in the game.

Beloit looks to keep the bats going on Saturday when they open Midwest Conference play at Ripon College.  The doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
