Demorest, GA -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team couldn't overcome and explosion out of halftime by Piedmont College in a Spring Trip-ending 14-6 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Piedmont got the scoring going at 13:22 of the first quarter before Beloit's Liam O'Connor, off an assist from Aidan Whinnery, tied it two minutes later. The Lions retook the lead at 5:13 of the period but Jacob Pritscher evened it at 2 with a goal at the 3:21 mark.
The back and forth game continued in the second quarter as PC took the lead back 29 seconds into the quarter before O'Connor scored his second and third goals of the half at 5:09 and 1:43 to put the Buccaneers on top 4-3. Piedmont had the last say, though, in the half with goals at 1:38 to tie it up and with 11 seconds left to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
Those two goals before halftime were just the beginning of what ended as a seven-goal explosion as the Lions took control out of the lockerroom to lead 11-4 with 5:50 left in the quarter. Thomas Porkka ended the run at 4:29 and Pritscher added his second goal of the game at 3:08 to make it 11-6 entering the fourth.
Piedmont finished things off with three goals in the final quarter while shutting down the Bucs for the final score.
Trevor Kenahan had nine saves in goal for Beloit while Jace Hodder recorded three.
The Buccaneers head back North for two games in the coming week, playing at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. before hosting DePauw University at Strong Stadium in the home opener on Saturday, March 16.
