Beloit, WI – The Beloit College Women’s Lacrosse team finally got their inaugural season underway on a cold Friday night at Strong Stadium, falling to Alma College 16-6.
The Scots, who came in with a 2-0 mark, scored the first four goals of the contest, the last on the man-advantage, to take control early. Sara Fithian scored the first goal in the Bucs’ history at the 17:52 mark of the first half to get Beloit on the board and then tallied a second score a short time later to make it 4-2. But Alma scored the final four goals of the half to lead 8-2 at the break.
The Scots scored the first seven goals of the second half to take a commanding 15-2 lead but the Buccaneers refused to quit. Erin Chambers scored twice while Ellie Daniels and Sarah Pipal each scored once in the final seven minutes to pull Beloit back within 15-6. AC closed the scoring with 21 seconds left for the final score.
Michelle Dillon had 13 saves in net for the Bucs.
The Buccaneers are now off until Wednesday, March 13, when they host Loras College at Strong Stadium in a 6:00 p.m. game. They then finish up their three-game homestand with their first Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference game against Fontbonne University at Strong on Sunday, March 17. Faceoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
