Mt. Vernon, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team fell to nationally-ranked Cornell College 82-59 in the season finale on Saturday afternoon.
Cornell, the Midwest Conference Champions, are ranked 14th in the USA Today Division III Top 25 and 15th in the D3Hoops Top 25, scored 12 of the first 14 points to take command early. An 8-3 run got Beloit back within 15-10. CC led 37-26 at the break.
The Buccaneers got with six at 37-31 less than a minute into the second half on a pair of Lauren McNanna free throws and a three-pointer by Kandace Fox before the Rams regained control with a 14-7 run. The Bucs kept battling and trailed 57-48 with 12:06 left but a 16-5 run by Cornell over a six-minute span gave them a 20-point advantage. The largest lead was 25 with just over two minutes remaining.
Cornell shot 52.6% for the game, including 60% in the second half, while holding Beloit to just 37.3% for the game.
Lana Wieseman led the way with 18 points while Fox, playing her final game for the Bucs, had 16, as did McNanna.
