Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team put together an impressive effort against a deep Knox College squad on Saturday in Flood Arena but saw their comeback fall short in a 108-103 loss.
The first half featured a series of mini runs until the last five minutes. Knox jumped on top early but the Bucs battled back to within 26-25 midway through the half, only to see the Prairie Fire put together a 10-0 run to lead by 11 with 5:43 left. KC led 60-46 at the break.
Knox increased their advantage to 17 points less than a minute into the second half but a 10-0 run by Beloit pulled them back within seven. The deficit stayed in that range for the next eight minutes before the Buccaneers started chipping away. Trailing 100-90 with 4:33 remaining they cut the lead down to three at 105-102 with 1:09 left on Kandace Fox's three-pointer. But Knox made three of four free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win.
The Buccaneers shot 53.5% for the game, including 57.1% in the opening half, but missed on 12 free throws out of their 38.
Fox led the way with 24 points while Lauren McNanna had 21 plus six assists. Lana Wieseman added 17 points and Leah Kruckman a career-high 14. Jenna Larsen grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds.
The Buccaneers celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday against Carroll University in the home finale. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
