Monmouth, IL -- In a game of runs the Beloit College Women's Basketball team couldn't put together one more in falling at Monmouth College 76-65 on Saturday afternoon.
Beloit started fast with the first five points of the game but the Fighting Scots put together an 8-3 run to tie it up at 8-all just over seven minutes into the half. They followed that up with an 11-2 run over four minutes to move in front 19-10. The Bucs followed with a 10-4 run to pull back within 23-20 with 6:10 left but Monmouth had a 7-1 run to close the half for a 30-21 lead at the break.
MC pushed their advantage to 15 at 39-24 three minutes into the second half before Beloit took off on a 19-3 run that gave them a 43-42 lead at the 13:57 mark, with a Kandace Fox layin completing the big surge. The Bucs were up 49-46 at 12:18 before the Scots took off on what proved to be the game-deciding run, a 22-4 explosion that re-established their 15-point lead with 5:35 remaining. They got their largest lead at 70-53 with 5:08 left and still led 74-58 with under 3:00 left before the Buccaneers closed the game on a 7-2 run. But the final run fell short.
Lauren McNanna had 23 points, 14 in the second half, to lead the way. Lana Wieseman had 18 points before fouling out.
Beloit returns home to host Ripon College in Flood Arena on Wednesday night. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
