November 24, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team came back from their short Thanksgiving Break looking for a win and got it on Saturday in Flood Arena, topping Dominican University 87-82.

James Lazarcik scored a career-high 29 points while Ahmad Shamsid-Deen also hit a career high with 16 points to lead the Buccaneers.

Winning by a point at 12-11 six minutes into the game Beloit went on a 13-4 run to move up 25-15 at the 8:17 mark.  But the Stars kept coming back and closed the gap to 40-34 with 1:12 left.  The Bucs closed the half with a 7-2 spurt to lead 47-36 at the break.  Early in the second DU crept even closer, getting to within 47-43 just over two minutes in.  But a 10-2 run by the Buccaneers pushed it back out to a 57-45 advantage at 15:37.  Beloit had its largest lead at 67-53 with 9:33 remaining but, again, Dominican put together a run, this one 13-4, to pull within 71-66 with just over five minutes left.  But that was as close as they'd get.

Tyler Butke added 17 points for Beloit, who shot 55.6% from the field for the game, their second straight game over 55% shooting.

The Buccaneers have a little time off before opening the Midwest Conference season at St. Norbert College on Wednesday night in De Pere.  Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.  They then host Monmouth College next Saturday in Flood Arena, with the tip set for 5:00 p.m.
