Ripon, WI -- Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball coaches have slotted the Beloit College Men’s Basketball team to tie for eighth with Monmouth in the 2012-13 Preseason Poll. The Buccaneer Women have been slotted in tenth place in their preseason poll. Both polls were released by the Conference Office today.
For the Men, St. Norbert College received eight first-place votes to claim the top spot followed by 2011-12 MWC Tournament Champion Carroll University, with the other three first-place votes, Grinnell College and defending MWC Champion Lake Forest College. Illinois College and Lawrence University tied for fifth and Ripon College was seventh ahead of Beloit and Monmouth. Cornell College came in tenth and Knox College 11th.
Brian Vraney begins his sixth season with the Bucs, who are coming off a 10-13 overall record, 9-9 in the MWC, during the 2011-12 season.
The Buccaneers open their season on Saturday, November 17, at defending national champion UW-Whitewater. The first home game is on Tuesday, November 20, vs. Lakeland College in Flood Arena at 7:00 p.m. MWC play opens on Wednesday, November 28, at St. Norbert.
On the Women’s side, defending champion St. Norbert received five first-place votes to lead the way. Lake Forest and 2011-12 MWC Tournament Champion Monmouth received two votes each to stand second and third, respectively, and Ripon received the final vote to stand fourth. Grinnell was fifth, Carroll sixth, Illinois College seventh, Cornell eighth and Knox ninth ahead of the Bucs. Lawrence is 11th.
Jennifer McCormick begins her second season with the Buccaneers after the team finished 5-18, 2-16 in the MWC, in her first season at the helm.
The Bucs open the season on Thursday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m. in Flood Arena in the first of three straight home games. They open MWC play on Wednesday, November 28, at St. Norbert.
