Mt. Pleasant, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team shook off an early goal and came back to defeat Cornell College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The win snapped a two-season drought in Midwest Conference play for the Bucs, who won an MWC match for the first time since the 2009 season.
After the Rams tallied just under eight minutes into the game, Caitlin Paterson scored unassisted at 18:54 to even things up. It stayed that way until Enid Gongora scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Erin Chambers at the 68:30 mark of the second half to put Beloit up. The defense and goalkeeper Willow Macy did the rest in the final 20-plus minutes to secure the win.
Macy finished with six saves in net.
The Bucs have a few days off before getting back at it on Wednesday against Lake Forest College at the Strong Complex Field. Gametime is at 4:00 p.m.
