Bucs Finish 1-3 at Alverno Classic, Fall in Championship Match

Milwaukee, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team got their first match win of the season but fell in the Championship Match as they completed play at the Alverno Classic 1-3 over the weekend.

On Friday, Beloit topped the host school 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) for their first win of the year and then dropped a close match to Knox College 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 20-25, 24-26) to complete the opening day.

Saturday was a heavy dose of Augustana College as they fell 3-0 in the final match of round robin play 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-14) and then lost again to the Vikings two hours later in the Championship Match 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-16).

Molly Schulting earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after recording 30 kills and six blocks on the weekend, both team highs.  Rachel Skoza had 24 kills and four blocks.  Carolyn Stransky had 80 set assists.  Jordyn Ciochon had a team-best eight service aces.

Julianne Gruenhagen earned Defense Specialist of the Tournament honors after recording 52 digs in the four matches.  She also had five service aces.

The Buccaneers have the week off before getting back on the court next Saturday at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Triangular in Milwaukee.  Beloit plays Wisconsin Lutheran College at 10:00 a.m. and the host school at 2:00 p.m.
