Ripon, WI – The Midwest Conference has released the 2012 Coaches Polls for the upcoming Fall Sports seasons of Football, Volleyball and Men's and Women's Soccer.
The Buccaneer Men's Soccer team was picked third after finishing as the Conference runner-up in 2011. Two-time defending Champion Carroll University received eight first-place votes and topped the poll.
Tim Schmiechen begins his 23rd season as head coach when Beloit opens the season on Friday, August 31, at Marian University in Fond du Lac. The home opener is set for Saturday, September 8, against Edgewood College at the Strong Complex Soccer Field, with kickoff at 3:00 p.m. They open MWC play on Wednesday night, September 19, at Carroll in a 7:00 p.m. match.
The Buccaneer Football squad was picked eighth. Monmouth College, with five first-place votes, and Illinois College, with four, shared the top spot in the poll. Monmouth won the title last season by one game over IC but both played in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
Chris Brann begins his seventh season as head coach when the Buccaneers open the campaign on Saturday, September 1, at the University of Chicago in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. They open league play the next Saturday, September 8, when they host league co-favorite Monmouth at Strong Stadium.
The Buccaneer Volleyball team was picked tenth. Cornell College, returning to the MWC this season, received eight first-place votes to grab the top spot in the poll.
Dawn Redd begins her sixth season as head coach when the Buccaneers open their season on Friday and Saturday, August 31 and September 1, with the Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena. Beloit will play two matches on both days, beginning against Hamline University on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Conference action for Beloit begins on Wednesday, September 26, at Lake Forest. The Bucs open a five-date homestand on Friday, October 5, against Cornell.
The Women's Soccer squad was picked 11th. Defending MWC Champion St. Norbert College, with nine first-place votes, is picked to take the title again.
Liz Bartley begins her seventh season as head coach when the Buccaneers open their season on Friday, August 31, against Concordia University Chicago at 4:30 p.m. at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. They open MWC play on Saturday, September 22, at Cornell in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
