Lexington, KY – The Beloit College Volleyball team, under head coach Dawn Redd, was one of three Midwest Conference squads recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for Academic Excellence as the organization released its 2011-12 Team Academic Award recipients today.
533 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 season, 90 in NCAA Division III. This number once again broke the previous years' total of 481 and sets a new all-time high for this award.
In addition to the Bucs, MWC opponents Lawrence University and Monmouth College were also recognized. Beloit was also one of just six Wisconsin teams recognized.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Buccaneers open their 2012 season on Friday, August 31, against Hamline University at 4:30 p.m. in the opening match of the Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena.
