Beloit, WI -- The accolades for the Beloit College Baseball team came once again on Tuesday when the American Baseball Coaches Association announced the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Central Region Team.
Senior left-handed pitcher Alex Norman was named to the Second Team while senior shortstop Jordan Jaenicke was a Third Team selection. Senior outfielder Alex Jennings was named to the Gold Glove Team.
The three honorees mark the second straight season, and the third time in the last four seasons, the Bucs had three representatives receive recognition from the ABCA and the most since four were selected in 2009. Under head coach Dave DeGeorge, who just completed his 22nd season at Beloit, the Buccaneers have now had 13 players honored.
Norman (Elburn, Illinois/Kaneland), who was First Team All-Region in 2011, led the team with seven wins, a 2.19 ERA and 50 strikeouts. His 2.19 ERA was the fourth-best in a single season while his seven victories tied the season record. Career-wise he finishes first in innings pitched, second in wins with 19 and ERA at 2.89, and third in appearances with 41. He led or shared the MWC lead in ERA, innings pitched and wins and was second in strikeouts and strikeouts looking.
Jaenicke (Bourbonnais, Illinois/Bishop McNamara), a Third Team All-Region selection last season and a Gold Glove honoree in 2010, was second on the team in hitting with a .333 average and third in RBI’s with 30. He led the squad with 41 runs scored, six home runs and a .457 on-base percentage. He finished his career in the top five in five offensive categories, including as the all-time leader in hit-by-pitches with 34. He led the MWC in fielding assists with 156 and was second in the league in runs scored. He was named the team MVP at the end of the season.
Jennings (Vernona, Wisconsin), who saw the first significant playing time of his career in 2012, handled 75 chances cleanly while playing both left and right field and led the team with three outfield assists. He finished the season with a .279 average, 24 runs scored and 33 RBIs, second on the squad. He also drew 21 base on balls and hit 11 doubles, both second on the team.
