Loves Park, IL -- The Beloit College Baseball team fell in their regular season finale at Road Ranger Stadium on Thursday night when Rockford College scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings on the way to a 7-5 win.
The Bucs got on the board first in the third inning when Alex Jennings singled in Jerrick Habecker, who had doubled with one. They increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth when Andrews Edwards doubled to left and eventually scored on a double-play grounder.
Rockford cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth and tied it with another run in the fifth. Beloit retook the lead in the sixth when Mitch Dubin scored on an error after leading off with a walk.
The Regents took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh with three runs but the Buccaneers came back to tie it up in the top of eight with two scores. Jennings drove in his second run of the game with a single and Jake Tresemer followed with a bases-loaded walk to knot things up at 5-all.
RC scored what proved to be the deciding runs with three hits in the bottom of the eight. The Bucs' Emory Nelms singled to lead off the ninth but was stranded at second base to end the game.
Will Mack finished with three hits while Jennings, Edwards and Nelms all had two.
The Buccaneers now play the waiting game to see if their season continues. If St. Norbert wins three of four in the MWC series with Ripon then Beloit advances to the MWC Tournament next weekend. If Ripon takes three of four they advance. If the teams split the four games Beloit will host a playoff game at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium on Monday, against Ripon, at 3:15 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Tourney.
