With the lead efforts of Dawn Redd and Liz Bartley, the Beloit College Department of Athletics has been awarded an NCAA CHOICES grant.
Only ten CHOICES grants are awarded each year from applications from NCAA institutions throughout the nation.
Through the CHOICES Program, the NCAA provides funding for NCAA member institutions and conferences to integrate athletics into a campus-wide effort to reduce alcohol abuse. CHOICES projects must partner athletics with other campus programs and departments in the development and implementation of effective alcohol education projects on college campuses.
CHOICES Beloit will use the three-year, $21,000 grant to link Buccaneer Athletics with faculty, students and staff in developing alcohol education projects for Beloit College students.
The misuse of alcohol by college students is of great concern to the NCAA. In an effort to educate students about the risks involved with the misuse of alcohol the NCAA has, through the support of the NCAA Foundation and Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., developed CHOICES.
