Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's team built a first half lead but visiting Monmouth College won the second half as the Bucs fell 68-62 in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams at Flood Arena on Friday night.

Beloit trailed 10-9 just over five minutes into the game but went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take an 18-10 lead with 12:48 left.  They built the lead up to nine at 23-14 at the 8:45 mark and 11 at 33-22 3:40 before the break.  But the Fighting Scots closed the half on a 9-2 run to whittle the Buccaneers' lead down to 35-31 at the half.

Monmouth kept their run going in the second half, scoring eight unanswered points in the first 2:14 to go up four at 39-35.  The game stayed tight over the next eight minutes, with neither team leading by more than three, until MC broke away from a 49-all tie with 9:40 left, scoring seven straight points to push the lead to 56-49 with 6:23 left.  Beloit got as close as three at 61-58 with 2:28 left and were within four with 26 seconds remaining but the Scots hit a pair of free throws in the final eight seconds to hold on.

Diana Sopkowicz led Beloit with 12 points on 6-7 shooting while Amanda Moore had 11.  Sarah Stariha and Jenna Larsen each had ten points, with Larsen adding a game-high ten rebounds for her first career double-double.

The Buccaneers have little time to think about Friday as they host Illinois College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
