Milwaukee, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team made it close in the last minute but lost at Milwaukee School of Engineering 60-54 on Tuesday night.
MSOE scored the first ten points of the game in the opening four-plus minutes before going on a 10-0 run of their own, fueled by seven points from Joe Poshepny, to even it up at 10 apiece with 11:39 left.
The Raiders eased out to an eight-point lead at 20-12 with 4:36 remaining but a Michael Horton three-pointer brought them back within three points at 22-19 at the 2:04 mark. MSOE led 24-19 at the break.
A 6-3 run by Beloit in the first five-plus minutes of the second half brought them within two at 27-25 but a 7-0 Raider run pushed the lead up to nine with 12:53 left.
Travis Towns' jumped at the 10:13 mark brought the Buccaneers back within two at 36-34 and pushed a 9-2 run, a run that was capped by Grant Henricksen's layin with 7:40 remaining that put Beloit up 39-38.
But MSOE took the lead for good 14 seconds later and held off the Bucs down the stretch. Beloit pulled to within two at 56-54 with 53 seconds left but could get no closer.
Horton led Beloit with 13 points and added four assists. Poshepny had 12 and Towns nine.
The Buccaneers take a short break for Thanksgiving before playing at home for the first time this season and opening Midwest Conference play on Sunday against Lake Forest College in Flood Arena. Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m.
