Kenosha, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team saw their 2010 season come to an end on Friday with a 3-0 loss to third-ranked Washington University-St. Louis in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Volleyball Tournament.
The Bears took the second match of the Regional 25-18, 25-13, 25-11.
WUST went on an 8-1 run early in set one to break away from a 4-4 tie and grab a 12-5 lead. They had a 6-2 run late to go up 23-14. The Bucs scored three straight points to pull back within 24-18 before the Bears closed it out.
In set two, a 5-0 run by Washington put them up 10-4 early but a 5-2 run by the Buccaneers pulled them back within two at 12-10. WUST then went on a 10-1 run to take control and grab a 2-0 match lead.
In the third set the Bears scored 15 of the first 21 points and never looked back. they kept up the pressure throughout the set, with Beloit never getting closer than 19-11 before Washington closed it out with five of the last seven points.
Laura Toth had eight kills and Mary Parker seven to lead the attack. Caitlin O'Leary had 21 assists while Tess Jacquez had five service aces. McKenzie Falker made 12 digs and Parker 11.
Seniors Jacquez, O'Leary, Parker and Toth finished up outstanding careers for the Buccaneers in the loss. Jacquez finished with 144 aces, #4 all-time, while O'Leary's 3,769 career assists rank second in Beloit history.
Parker's 1,954 digs are #3 all-time and her 980 kills just outside of the top five. Toth became just the fourth Beloit player with 1,000-plus career kills, finishing with 1,002 for fourth all-time, while her 289 career block assists are second all-time and her 417 total blocks are third.
