BUCS PICKED FOURTH IN MWC PRE-SEASON FOOTBALL POLL
Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Football team has been picked fourth in a pre-season poll of league coaches as the 2010 season approaches kickoff. The Conference Office released the poll this afternoon.
Monmouth College, with seven first-place votes, was chosen to make it three straight titles while St. Norbert College, with three first-place votes, was picked second. Ripon College slid in above Beloit in third.
Either Monmouth or St. Norbert has won the last seven championships.
Carroll University was fifth followed by Illinois College, Lake Forest College, Knox College, Grinnell College and Lawrence University.
Beloit went 6-4 overall, 5-4 in league play last season, settling into a three-way tie for fourth with Carroll and Illinois College. The records were the programs best since the 2002 season, when they also finished in a three-way tie for fourth.
Chris Brann begins his fifth season as head coach when the Buccaneers open the 2010 season on Saturday, September 4, when they host the University of Chicago in a 6:00 p.m. game at Strong Stadium. The match-up is the first of six home games this season. They open league play the next Saturday, September 11, when they host St. Norbert at 1:00 p.m.
