October 14, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team defeated Grinnell College 3-1 on Wednesday night in Flood Arena to keep their Midwest Conference record perfect at 4-0 while climbing to within one win of 20 victories.

But it was the way they closed out the fourth set that got the Arena jumping.

Beloit trailed 23-17 late in the fourth set as the Pioneers looked poised to force a fifth and deciding set. But the Bucs scored eight unanswered points to win 25-23.

The Buccaneers won sets one and three 26-24 and 25-22, respectively, while GC took set two 25-19.

Tess Jacquez finished with 19 kills to lead the attack while Mary Parker had 12 kills to go with 18 digs. Caitlin O'Leary had 45 set assists and Esther Chiu had a team-high 25 digs. Katherine Miller finished with five blocks, one solo, while Emma Kozera had four blocks.

The Bucs remain in MWC play on Friday when they travel to Ripon College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
