Matchinske-Brehmer Sets Record; Women 5th, Men 6th after Day 1 of MWC Meet

Appleton, WI -- Marin Matchinske-Brehmer led the way for the Beloit College Swimming & Diving team on Day 1 of the Midwest Conference Championships, being held at Boldt Natatorium on the Lawrence University campus in Appleton.

The Buccaneer Women stood fifth and the Men 6th after the opening day. Grinnell College led both meets.

Matchinske-Brehmer set the Beloit record in the 50 Free in the prelims with a time of :25.66 and then bettered it in the finals with a :25.56. She broke the record of Ali Anfinson from 1998. Matchinske-Brehmer finished sixth in the final.

Emily Law also helped the Women with a seventh in the 200 IM, hitting the wall in 2:26.72.

Gregory Schalla paced the Men's squad with a seventh in the 500 Free, coming in in 5:03.13.

The Men's 200 Free and 400 Medley Relays both finished fifth while the Women's 200 Free Relay was sixth and the 400 Medley Relay seventh.

The Women's 200 Free Relay of Matchinske-Brehmer, Lauren Jones, Kate Parsons and Mandy Lee set a school record of 1:45.95.

Day 2 begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with prelims. The finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
