Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team rebounded from a tough opening-game loss to get a split of their doubleheader with Viterbo University on Wednesday afternoon, winning the second game 7-5. The Buccaneers had dropped the opener 2-1 in 10 innings.

In game two the Bucs jumped out quickly, scoring four times in the first inning on a two-run double by Allegera Stanton and a two-run single from Tess Jacquez.

The V-Hawks got one run back in the second but Beloit answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles from McKenzie Falker and Katy Sandt to go up 6-1.

The Buccaneers made it 7-1 in the fourth on a Stanton suicide squeeze before VU started a comeback with three runs in the fifth.

Viterbo pulled to within two at 7-5 in the seventh and had the tying run come to the plate twice but Sandt secured the win with a pair of groundouts.

Stanton grabbed her first collegiate victory on the mound, going four and 2/3. Sandt recorded a save. Sarah Stariha, Laura Byrne, Falker and Jacquez each had two hits while Stanton had three RBIs.

In game one, Beloit struck first with a run in the second on a Lisa McClure single. It stayed 1-0 until the V-Hawks evened it with a solo home run in the fourth.

Both teams had chances in the next five innings before VU finally pushed across a run with two out in the tenth. The Bucs went in order in the bottom of the tenth.

Stariha and Kourtney Kingslien each had two hits. Sandt took the loss, going the distance while striking out six.

Beloit completes a busy week on Saturday when they open Midwest Conference play against St. Norbert College at the Strong Complex. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
