Bucs Fall in Shootout in MWC Tournament Championship Match

Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Soccer team tied Grinnell College 2-2 but lost 3-2 in the shootout in the Midwest Conference Tournament Championship Match, played at Carroll University in Waukesha on Saturday.

Grinnell's win gives them the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

Jackson Wilkins got the Bucs off to a fast start, scoring at 1:46 and 6:09 of the match to put Beloit up early. Marc Robinson assisted on the first goal.

The Pioneers cut the lead in half at 32:13 but the Buccaneers still led 2-1 at the break.

GC finally tied it up at 2-all at the 78:36 mark, forcing OT.

Neither team broke through in the extra periods, putting both teams in a shootout to decide the winner for the second straight day.

Grinnell grabbed the shootout lead on their first shot but Marc Robinson evened it on Beloit's third shot. GC re-took the lead on their fourth shot but Silas Connelly tied it at 2-2 on the Bucs' fifth shot. The Pioneers' Stephen Craig then hit the deciding shot, giving GC the 3-2 shootout win.

Nathan Lipps made seven saves in net for the Buccaneers.
