Waukesha, WI -- The #4-seeded Beloit College Men's Soccer team upset #1 seed, host, and 19th-ranked Carroll University, tying 1-1 and advancing on a shootout 5-3 on Friday afternoon in Waukesha in the first semifinal of the 2009 Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Buccaneers will now play #3-seed Grinnell College, who tied St. Norbert College 0-0 before winning the shootout 7-6, in the Tournament Championship Match on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The winner receives the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

Carroll struck first in the game, scoring with under four minutes left in the opening half.

But Brian Maunze tied it up quickly after halftime, scoring unassisted 44 seconds into the second period. That's how it stayed through the final 44:16 of regulation and two ten-minute overtime periods, forcing the shoot-out.

In the shoot-out, Bo Wilkins got Beloit's first goal followed by a successful conversion by Carroll. Maunze got goal #2 and then Nathan Lipps stopped Steve Koprowski's shot to his right to put the Bucs up for good.

Marc Robinson scored, matched by Carroll, as did Tom Slusher. Silas Connelly ended it with his shoot-out score.

Lipps made seven saves in net for the win.
