2nd Half Rally Falls Short for Bucs

Rock Island, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team put together a second half rally that almost erased a big deficit but it wasn't enough as they fell at Augustana College 66-53 in Rock Island, Illinois, on Wednesday night.

Beloit jumped out quickly and took an 8-2 lead less than two minutes into the game. But Augustana put together a 22-2 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 24-11 lead with 7:22 left in the half. AC led 34-17 at the break.

The Bucs started their second half rally slowly and steadily, cutting the lead to 13 four minutes in and then pulling to within ten at 41-31 with 15:02 left.

Augie got the lead back up to 14 at 11:57 before a 17-5 Buccaneer run, capped off by a pair of free throws from Travis Towns, brought Beloit to within two at 52-50 with 5:09 left.

But after a timeout the Vikings went on a 14-3 run to close the game, including making seven of eight free throws in the last 1:34.

Towns led the Bucs with 16 points while David Bremner had 12 and Michael Horton 11.

The Bucs make their 2009-10 home debut on Saturday when they host Benedictine University at 3:00 p.m. in Flood Arena.
