Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team had a tough opening weekend in Midwest Conference play. Their second weekend has gotten off to a much better start.
The Bucs took a pair at Carroll University in the first two games of their four-game series, winning 15-4 and 11-1.
In the opener, Carroll struck first with two in the first inning before Beloit got three in the second. Andrew Heer and Drew Oswald both had RBI triples in the inning sandwiched around Jordan Jaenicke's fielder's choice RBI.
CU tied it up at three in the bottom of the second before the Bucs took control, scoring six in the third.
Heer had a two-run double, Oswald a two-run triple, Mike Kovach an RBI single and Scott Slubowski a run-scoring double to propel the inning.
The Buccaneers added five more in the fifth. Kovach hit a sacrifice fly followed by Oswald stealing home on a double steal. Mike Ross then drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk followed by a Heer two-run single.
CU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth before Beloit closed out the scoring in the seventh when Emory Nelms hit a sacrifice fly.
In game two the Buccaneers jumped up early with two in the first and three in the second. Ross had a sac fly and Slubowski scored on an error in the opening inning. Slubowski had an RBI single, Ryan Schmitz a sacrifice fly and Kovach scored on the front end of a double steal to make it 5-0.
The teams played scoreless bal from that point until the Bucs got two runs in each of the last three innings.
Schmitz scored on an error and Jaenicke singled in a run in the seventh; Schmitz singled in a run and Hunter Nelson had a run-scoring fielder's choice in the eigfhth; and Heer hit a solo home run and Rick Chernik drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth.
Heer hit for the cycle in the doubleheader while Oswald and Kovach al;so each had five hits.
The Buccaneers finish up the series tomorrow at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
