Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team dropped a pair of games at Ripon College on Saturday as both teams opened the Midwest Conference schedule, losing 4-0 and 15-8.
In the opener Beloit managed just three hits, with Ryan schmitz getting two of them, in the loss. RC scored three times in the second to take the lead for good and tacked on another run in the eighth.
In game two RC again jumped on top with two in the first. The Buccaneers cut the lead in half in the third when Schmitz hit an RBI single but Ripon answered that run with one in the fourth to go up 3-1.
Beloit tied it up in the sixth on a Hunter Nelson two-run double but, again, RC answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning, making it 5-3.
The Red Hawks added three runs in the seventh to push their lead to 8-3 but the Buccaneers tied it up with a five-run eighth. Nelson had an RBI single, Drew Oswald a two-run base hit, Mike Kovach a run-scoring fielder's choice and Schmitz an RBI single to finish the uprising.
But the 8-8 tie was short-lived as RC put seven runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to seal the sweep.
Beloit will look to get back on track on Sunday when they finish up the four-game series with Ripon at 1:00 p.m. at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.
