Auburndale, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team didn't enjoy their second day of the 2010 season near as much as the first as they fell to pre-season 21st-ranked Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 13-3 on Monday afternoon.
After a scoreless opening inning RHIT got single runs in the second, third and fourth. Beloit prevented further damage in each of those innings by executing great relays for the third out in the second and third and turning a double-play to end the inning in the fourth.
The Buccaneers pulled back into the game with a two-run fourth. Mike Ross had an RBI double and Drew Oswald a run-scoring single in back-to-back at bats to make it 3-2.
But the Fightin' Engineers got three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take control of the contest. They added three in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Dan Edwards had an RBI single in the eighth to finish up Beloit's scoring.
Ross finished the game 2-4 while Mike Kovach was 2-3.
Darren Pilcher took the loss, throwing four innings while give up three earned runs, striking out two and not walking a batter. Andrew Edwards had a scoreless two-plus inning stint in his collegiate debut, giving up two hits and striking out two.
The Bucs are back on the field tomorrow morning when they take on Augustana College in Winter Haven. First pitch is at 11:00 a.m. EST.
