The Midwest Conference released the 2013 Coaches Polls for the upcoming Fall sports seasons of Football, Volleyball, Men’s Soccer and Women’s Soccer this week.
The Buccaneer Men’s Soccer team, who has made two straight MWC Tournament appearances and three in the last four seasons, is slotted for a fourth-place finish in 2013. Defending Conference champion Lake Forest received nine first-place votes to take the top spot followed by defending MWC Tournament champion Carroll with the remaining two first-place votes.
Tim Schmiechen begins his 24th season as head coach when Beloit opens play on Tuesday, September 3, against Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. The squad opens MWC play on Saturday, September 28, at Grinnell College.
The Buccaneer Volleyball squad was ranked 11th in the preseason poll. Defending MWC and MWC Tournament champion Cornell College received ten of the 11 first-place votes to earn the top spot, followed by MWC runner-up St. Norbert College, who got the remaining first-place vote.
Dawn Redd begins her seventh season as head coach of the Bucs, who begin play on Friday, August 30, in the Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena. The two-day tourney has Beloit opening play against Rockford College at 4:30 pm followed by a match against Finlandia University at 8:30 pm. On Saturday the 31st the Buccaneers take on Milwaukee School of Engineering at 10:00 am before closing the weekend against Marian University at 2:00 pm. The team opens MWC play on October 4 against Monmouth College in Flood.
The Buccaneer Football team was slotted 11th in the poll. Defending champion St. Norbert and Illinois College both received four first-place votes, with SNC narrowly taking the top spot. Carroll received the remaining three first-place votes.
Chris Brann is back for his eighth season with the Bucs. The squad opens their season on September 7 against the University of Chicago at Strong Stadium in a 6:00 pm kickoff. They travel to Monmouth College on September 14 to open MWC play.
The Buccaneer Women’s Soccer team was ranked 10th in the poll. Defending MWC and MWC Tournament champion Lake Forest got seven first-place votes to grab the top spot, narrowly out-distancing St. Norbert, who had three votes. Carroll received the remaining first-place vote.
Nick Chapman begins his run as head coach of the Buccaneers. The team opens play on August 30 at Wisconsin Lutheran College before playing their home opener on Sunday, September 1, against Eureka College at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. MWC play begins on September 25 against Carroll at home.
