How did you find out about Beloit? Did you know a lot about Beloit when you first visited campus?

100 years ago when my great-grandfather enrolled at Beloit.  My grandfather also graduated from Beloit in 1942.  My individual interest in Beloit was sparked when Coach Schmiechen sent me a letter after a college-search soccer tournament during my senior year of high school.  My parents were also huge advocates for the power of a liberal arts education, so I ended up doing  a lot of research on the top liberal arts colleges in the Midwest.

We are focusing a lot on Liberal Arts in Practice at Beloit; so as part of what you practice(d) name one aspect that you took away(will take) from being a Beloit student-athlete that you use in your everyday life.

The liberal arts experience taught me how to interact and communicate with diverse groups of people and think critically about fascinating problems.

What (if any) accolades did you receive (Academically/Athletically) while being a student-athlete?

2nd Team All-Conference, Team MVP, two-year captain, Academic All-Conference (3 yrs)

If you could name one class or professor (mentor) that really meant something to you while at Beloit, who or what would that be?

It’s hard to pick just one.  However, the one professor that has helped me more than any other person (besides my parents and fiancée) in the past few years is Jeff Adams, Dept. of Economics.  His Quantitative Methods course challenged me to think critically and push myself outside of my comfort zone, and the support he has given me as alum is a constant reminder of the value of the “Beloit Network.”

Name one of the most rewarding experiences you took part in while at Beloit College?

Athletically:  Winning the Midwest Conference regular season in 2006.

Academically:  Interning with Hendricks Development Group as part of the Duffy Community Partnership allowed me to gain an understanding of the larger Beloit community, which is something I would encourage all Beloit students to do.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? - Name a career goal/aspiration you strive for.

Since graduating from Beloit three years ago I have been a Teach For America corps member, teaching high school mathematics and coaching soccer on the southwest side of Chicago and I currently work for the organization’s Growth Strategy & Development team.  These experiences have given me a chance to realize the educational injustices that exist in our country and the importance of social sector ventures at large.  That being said, in five years I see myself running a charter school organization, getting involved in education leadership, or working in a leadership position for a company within the greater social sector.

“In ONE word I would you sum up Beloit College as – Unexpected.”
