Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team played the gracious host very early before taking off on a big run to top Defiance College 20-4 on Saturday afternoon at Strong Stadium.
After the Yellow Jackets scored the first two goals of the game the Buccaneers went on a ten-goal run to take a commanding lead. Thomas Porkka scored twice in the first quarter while Aidan Whinnery and Ryan Hazuka each tallied once to make it 4-2 after one. Hazuka had two more goals in the second quarter. He was helped by scores from Hazuka, Whinnery, Liam O'Connor, Jack Jenkins and Jacob Pritscher before Defiance stopped the run with under two minutes left before halftime, giving Beloit a 10-3 advantage at the break.
The Bucs put things away in the third quarter with seven goals while shutting down DC. Whinnery scored three times while Hazuka had two more and Pritscher and Porkka added the other two, making it 17-3 entering the fourth. Hazuka finished up his seven-goal game with two more to start the fourth quarter before Porkka closed out the Buccaneer scoring. Defiance added a goal with a minute left for the final score.
In addition to Hazuka's seven-goal game Whinnery had five goals and six assists and Porkka finished with four goals and an assist. Pritscher finished with a pair of goals and O'Connor added seven assists to go with his score.
All three Beloit goalkeepers saw action, with Trevor Kenahan recording seven saves, Jace Hodder three and Jacob Mayer one.
The Bucs have a week before hitting the road next Saturday, playing at Elmhurst College. They then close out their inaugural season on Wednesday, April 17, against Milwaukee School of Engineering at the Stadium.
