There’s always only one first. And the Beloit College Men’s Lacrosse team is about to experience a big first.
The Buccaneers begin a new era in Buccaneer Athletics on Sunday afternoon in St. Louis when they play the first game in program history against Fontbonne College at 1:00 p.m.
The Bucs have been practicing since mid-January for this day and also played a pair of scrimmages. Now head coach Bob Dignazio and his squad are ready for the real thing, facing a Griffins team that lost its season-opener last Saturday at Sewanee in Tennessee 14-5.
After the opener the Buccaneers have less than a week before heading off on their Spring Trip, which takes them to Lexington, Kentucky, and Atlanta, Georgia. They’ll play Transylvania University in Lexington on Sunday, March 3, and then take on Oglethorp University and Piedmont College in and around Atlanta on Wednesday, March 6, and Saturday, March 9, respectively, before returning North.
Beloit plays at another first-year program, Benedictine University, in Lisle, Illinois, on Wednesday, March 13, before playing DePauw University in the home opener on Saturday, March 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Strong Stadium.
