De Pere, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team fell behind midway through the first half and couldn't recover in a 68-48 loss at 13th-ranked St. Norbert College on Wednesday night in their first game of 2014.
The Green Knights broke away from a 5-5 tie with a 27-9 run that took up the next seven minutes for a 32-14 lead and never looked back. The Bucs put together an 11-2 run that spanned halftime, which SNC led 34-21, to pull back within 34-25 two minutes into the second half.
But that was as close as Beloit would get as St. Norbert responded to that run with a 15-2 run to go up 49-27, their largest lead of the night, with 11:41 remaining. The Bucs never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
James Lazarcik was the only Buccaneer in double figures with 14 points, also grabbing eight rebounds. Rudy Bentley added nine points and four assists. Beloit shot 39.1% for the game, 30.4% in the first half, while SNC was at 50% in both halves.
The Buccaneers look to get back on the positive side on Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
