Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team posted an 80-73 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Monday night in Flood Arena in the middle game of a three-games-in-five-days stretch. The game was the final non-conference contest of the season for the Bucs.
The Buccaneers took charge early and never trailed, scoring 11 of the game's first 13 points in the opening five minutes. But WLC refused to roll over and pulled back within four with 8:22 left before a 12-0 run by Beloit moved the lead back up to 16 with 2:45 left. The Bucs led 43-31 at the break.
Beloit still led by 15 at 58-43 midway through the second half but the Warriors kept chipping away and got within five at 67-62 with 3:57 remaining with a 19-9 run. It was still a five-point game with 2:13 left but the Buccaneers held on and eased in for the win.
The Bucs shot 51.9% for the game and out-rebounded Wisconsin Lutheran 35-23.
James Lazarcik had a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Marcus Ford had a career-high 11 points, including three three-pointers, while Steve Dowden added a career-high ten points. Steve McAfee scored nine.
The Buccaneers have little time to rest, heading to Waukesha on Wednesday night for a key contest against Midwest Conference co-leader Carroll University. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
