Beloit, WI -- The script couldn't have been much better for the Beloit College Men's Basketball team. Coming off a disappointing last-second loss on Wednesday night the Buccaneers stepped up in a big way and knocked off Ripon College 94-81 in the home and season finale in Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Buccaneer seniors David Bremner, Michael Horton, Travis Towns and Matt Hackbart played their final game for Beloit on Senior Day.
The win was the first for the Bucs against Ripon since February 15, 2006, snapping an 11-game winning streak for RC in the series. Overall the Red Hawks had won 16 of the last 17 games played between the two teams.
Beloit started red hot, hitting seven of their first nine shots to jump in front 18-8 just over five minutes into the game. Ripon pulled back to within seven but that's as close as they'd get in the first 20 minutes as the Bucs built their lead as large as 15 before settling for a 48-35 lead at the break.
The Bucs shot 57.1% (16-28) during the first half and 13 of 14 from the charity stripe. James Lazarcik had 15 points and Michael Horton nine with five assists in the half.
A 25-13 run to open the second half gave the Bucs their largest lead of the game at 73-48 with 12:52 left. Beloit still led by 24 with 9:12 remaining before the Red Hawks went on an extended 24-10 run that got them back within ten at 89-79 with 2:26 left. But that was as close as they'd get as Beloit hit three free throws and a layin in the final two minutes to seal the win.
Lazarcik led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds. Bremner had 18 points to finish his career with 1,029, placing him in 14th all-time. Horton added16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds and Tyler Butke had ten points. Hackbart finished with a career-high eight points in his final game while Towns also closed his career with eight to finish with 992 career points.
