Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team almost let one slip away in regulation but rebounded with a strong overtime in an 86-76 win at Knox College on Saturday.
Beloit broke away from a tight game with a 15-2 run to build a 20-7 advantage at the 12:57 mark. Knox got back within seven several times over the next eight minutes but could get no closer until they put together a 10-3 run to close the half with Beloit leading 32-29.
The Buccaneers maintained their lead from six to eight points through the first nine minutes of the second half. A quick spurt midway through put them up 55-41 before the Prairie Fire closed regulation with a 30-16 run to force the extra session. Knox tied it at 71-all with 20 seconds remaining. Beloit missed a three-pointer with four seconds left that would have been the game winner.
The Buccaneers took control of the game in overtime, outscoring KC 15-5 while hitting all three of their shots from the field and going 9-13 from the free throw stripe. Knox missed all seven of its overtime shots, including 0-3 from three-point.
James Lazarcik went for 20 points to lead the way while Michael Horton added 18 with eight assists. David Bremner had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, as did Tyler Butke with 11 points and ten boards.
The Buccaneers will look to keep things moving in the right direction on Wednesday night at Ripon College. Action begins at 7:30 p.m.
