Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team took Midwest Conference co-leader Lake Forest College down to the final minute but couldn't get the win in a 67-62 loss on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena.
The first half was fairly tight throughout until Lake Forest turned a 21-19 lead with 9:40 left into a 31-21 advantage at the 4:26 mark with a 10-2 run. LFC led by 11 at 36-25 with under two minutes remaining but a three-pointer by Michael Horton and a layin by David Bremner in the final minute-plus got the deficit down to 36-30 at the break.
The Foresters kept the Buccaneers at bay through a large part of the second half, maintaining their lead in the six to eight-point range. But a pair of free throws by Horton and a layup by James Lazarcik brought Beloit back to within two at 62-60 with 1:16 left. The Foresters held on down the stretch with a layin and three free throws while Tyler Butke's jumper with 38 seconds remaining was the Bucs' final tally of the game.
Horton and Bremner both scored 15 to lead the way. Butke added 12. Horton also had seven assists while Bremner and Lazarcik both grabbed seven rebounds.
The Buccaneers now hit the road for three games, starting with a rematch at the other MWC co-leader, Grinnell College, on Friday night. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
