Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team has done nothing but practice on their home court for the entire 2011-12 season. But Tuesday night they finally got to go against somebody other than their teammates and the result was a 78-65 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering to snap a two-game losing streak.
Trailing 3-2 very early, the Bucs went on a 14-3 run to jump up 16-6 at the 12:00 mark of the opening half and never looked back. The Raiders pulled to within nine with 9:11 left but Beloit closed the half on a 19-8 burst to lead 40-20 at the break.
The Buccaneers scored 10 of the second half's first 16 points to keep their lead comfortable. The largest advantage came with 17:24 remaining when Beloit went up 50-26.
MSOE kept trying to mount an attack but Beloit had an answer every time. The Bucs still led by 21 with 2:32 left before the Raiders finally did close the lead in the final two minutes, with the final score being as close as they had gotten since the 5:00 mark of the first half.
Michael Horton and James Lazarcik led the way with 17 points apiece, with Horton also dishing out nine assists. David Bremner added 13 points and Tyler Butke 12.
The Buccaneers now break for finals and the Holidays before returning to Midwest Conference play after the New Year, hosting Grinnell College on Thursday, January 5. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Flood Arena.
