De Pere, WI -- It was deja' vu all over again.
The Beloit College Men's Basketball team held on for a 57-52 win over 17th-ranked St. Norbert College in De Pere on Wednesday, duplicating an upset they pulled off on their home court way back on December 8.
Thw win was the third in the last four games for the surging Buccaneers, putting them over .500 in Midwest Conference play for the first time this season and keeping them in the hunt for a spot in the MWC Tournament. It also marked the first regular-season sweep of SNC for Beloit since the 1992-93 season.
The Bucs took control of the game over an 11 minute stretch of the opening half, busting out a 21-9 run that turned a 3-3 tie into a 24-12 lead at the 7:14 mark. SNC used an 8-0 run to climb back within four at 24-20 with 3:41 remaining. Beloit led 28-23 at the break.
The Green Knights got to within three five minutes into the second half but a 10-3 run put the Buccaneers back up by ten at 45-35 midway through the half. St. Norbert kept coming and got within two with 2:28 left in regulation.
Still up 52-50 with a minute left, Michael Horton hit a three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining to increase the lead to 55-50. After SNC scored with under 25 seconds left, Horton was fouled and hit two free throws for the final points of the game to seal the win.
David Bremner led the way with 15 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Horton and Travis Towns added 12 points apiece.
The Buccaneers look to keep the momentum going on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena, hosting Lawrence University in a 4:00 p.m. tip. It will be "Play for the Cure" day in support of cancer awareness.
