Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team ran into a hot-shooting team on Wednesday night in Flood Arena and it was too much to overcome in an 86-71 loss to Ripon College.
The loss snapped Beloit's two-game winning streak. They still have won three of their last five.
Beloit jumped up by six points five minutes in before RC went on an 11-3 run to take a two-point lead midway through the half. The teams traded the lead for the next six minutes but Ripon went on an 11-2, three-minute run that put them up eight with 1:45 left. They led 41-34 at the break.
The Red Hawks slowly built their lead through the second half, shooting at a 57.1% clip, and got it up to 16 at 55-39 with 14:12 remaining to end a 14-3 run. The Buccaneers got within eight with 2:51 left after a pair of Travis Towns free throws but could get no closer.
Besides the hot shooting, RC hit 10 of 12 free throws in the final 1:30 to seal the win.
Patrick Kenny led the way with 17 points while James Lazarcik had 13. Michael Horton scored nine with four assists. David Bremner had a game-high nine rebounds.
The Buccaneers will look to get their momentum back on the road for the next four games, all Midwest Conference match-ups. That road trip starts Tuesday at Carroll University in Waukesha. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
