Austin, TX -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team closed the gap in the end but fell to UW-Platteville 67-54 in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon, stopping a modest two-game winning streak.
The Pioneers took control of the game in the opening half, going on a 13-2 run over a five-minute stretch to turn a 6-6 game into a 19-8 lead with 11:24 left in the half.
UWP led 42-24 at the break, shooting 69% from the field, including 5-7 from three-point, while the Buccaneers shot 35% in the opening 20 minutes.
Platteville pushed their lead into the 20's early in the second half and led 51-28 at the 15:52 mark. But a 12-3 Buccaneer run pulled them back to within 14 at 54-40 midway through the half.
UWP re-established their advantage soon after and held steady. Beloit pulled to within 66-54 with 1:50 left but that's as close as they'd get.
David Bremner matched a career-high with 25 points. Michael Horton had eight points and five assists.
The Bucs look to get things back on the positive side on New Year's Eve afternoon against host Concordia University of Texas. Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m.
