Beloit, WI -- Make no mistake. The Beloit College Men's Basketball team can shoot the three. Just ask Knox College after Friday night's 83-73 Buccaneer win in Flood Arena.
Beloit hit 11-17 three-pointers (64.7%) for the game, recording the third-best three-point percentage in a game in Flood Arena history.
Travis Towns got things going for the Buccaneers with a three 22 seconds into the game, which gave Beloit a lead they would never let go of.
The Bucs gradually built their advantage through the opening half, with the 43-30 lead at the break being the largest.
But the Prairie Fire wasn't done just yet.
The Buccaneers built their advantage as high as 14 at 54-40 six minutes into the second half on, you guessed it, a three-pointer by Derek Carrier. But KC took off on a 10-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to cut the lead down to four at 54-50 with 11:43 left.
Beloit weathered the storm and worked their advantage back up to double figures. They hit nine of ten free throws in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
Carrier led the way with 20 points, including three three-pointers, while David Bremner had 18. Patrick Kenny added 14, with two three's, and Michael Horton ten, also with two three's. Derek Lovgren also hit a pair from "downtown."
The Buccaneers turn right around and host Grinnell College on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena. Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m.
