Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team kept fighting back but in the end fell in a close Midwest Conference game at Lawrence University on Tuesday night, 59-55.
Lawrence jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first ten minutes of the game but Beloit put together a 7-0 run to tie it at 15-all with 8:00 left in the half. The Vikings then used a 14-5 spurt to close out the half and lead 29-20 at the break.
The Buccaneers chipped away in the first nine minutes of the second half - outscoring LU 19-6 - and finally took a 36-35 lead on Alex McDonald's jumper. McDonald added a three-pointer seconds later for Beloit's biggest lead at 39-35 with 11:00 left.
The Vikings made the deciding run soon after, going from a 43-42 advantage at the 7:00 mark to a 53-45 lead with 3:30 remaining.
The Buccaneers continued to battle to the end but got no closer than the final margin.
Travis Towns and Michael Horton led the way with 11 points each while David Bremner added ten with eight rebounds. Derek Lovgren also added eight boards.
The Bucs return to Flood Arena on Friday for an MWC game against Lake Forest College. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
