Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team survived two last seconds shots by Grinnell College in the final four seconds for a 91-90 Midwest Conference-opening win in Grinnell, Iowa, on Friday night.

The win was the first time Beloit opened the season with a conference win since the 2001-02 season and their first win at Grinnell since February 3, 2005.

The game was tight throughout the opening half, with Grinnell breaking free for a six-point lead with 8:43 remaining. The Bucs fought back to tie it at 41-all at the 3:38 mark and then went on a 7-2 run to grab a 48-43 lead in the final minute. They led 50-46 at the break, primarily on the strength of Travis Towns' 20 points and David Bremner's 13.

Beloit increased their lead to eight less than four minutes into the second half before the Pioneers went on a 25-10 run over the next eight-plus minutes to take a 75-68 advantage midway through the half.

Trailing 83-76 with 5:36 remaining, the Buccaneers put together a 12-2 run over three minutes to take an 88-85 lead with 2:28 left, a lead they would never give up.

GC had two shots to win the contest, a three-pointer with four seconds left and a rebound layin at the buzzer but neither fell as Beloit held on.

Towns finished with a career-high 32 points while Bremner added 23 with a game-high 13 rebounds. Derek Carrier chipped in 17.

For the game, Beloit shot 70.6% (36-51)

The Bucs will look to keep it going on Saturday afternoon when they take on Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Tipoff is at 4:00 p.m.
