Fond du Lac, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team dropped their 2009-10 season opener at Marian University on Sunday afternoon 78-57.
The Sabres scored the first seven points of the contest before Matt Hackbart scored the Bucs' first points of the season at the 16:21 mark. But MU went on a 10-1 run over the next three-plus minutes to take a 17-3 advantage with 12:56 left in the half. Marian led 34-23 at the break.
The Bucs pulled to within eight at 35-27 45 seconds into the second half before the Sabres again went on a run, outscoring the Buccaneers 14-5 over the next five minutes to go up 49-32.
The biggest lead of the game came with 5:26 left at 70-44.
David Bremner, playing his first game for Beloit, led the way with 13 points while Travis Towns had 11 and Michael Horton eight.
Patrick Kenny grabbed a team-high six rebounds and passed out four assists.
Beloit remains on the road, playing at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
