Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Football team saw a first quarter outburst by visiting Carroll University spoil the season finale as well as Senior Day at Strong Stadium on Saturday.
The Pioneers came out of the gate firing, scoring 20 points in the opening quarter with just 5:02 coming off the clock on their possessions. The Buccaneers got on the board 38 seconds before the end of the quarter on Kam Sallee's 23-yard field goal.
Beloit had the only scoring in the second quarter on Mason Dixon's seven-yard run with under a minute left to make it 20-10 at the break.
The Pioneers increased their lead to 27-10 with a TD in the third quarter for the lone score and then made it 33-10 in the first minute of the fourth. Lukeson Versulien broke up the Carroll run on a 49-yard scoring pass from Sallee at the 12:14 mark before CU closed out the scoring with 5:33 left for the final.
Carroll had 379 total yards, 365 on the ground, while the Bucs finished with 323, 179 rushing and 144 passing.
Dixon finished with 136 yards on 28 carries to end up fourth on the single-season rushing list with 1,326 yards. Sallee and Evan Phillips combined for the 144 passing yards, with Versulien catching four passes for 59 yards, Nathan Brault three for 34 and Michael Nolden four for 33. Versulien also had 111 return yards, including a 67-yard kickoff return.
On defense Riley Pearson, Derell Carter and Antonio Jones each had seven tackles, with both Pearson and Carter recovering a fumble. David Lafayette also recovered a fumble while Jake Fisher had the lone sack of the game.
Seniors Luke McLeran, Joel Edouard, Mat Kahl, Daniel Collins, Brian Flanagan, Mateo Lauersdorf, Hakim Pinklyn, Hayden Simonis, Kevin Palmer and Matt Olson all played their final game for the Bucs.
